Importantly, the United States Constitution proclaims " the right of the people to keep and bear Arms, shall not be infringed." On Wednesday, the House approved H.R. 822, the National Right-to-Carry Reciprocity Act of 2011, by a vote of 272-154. The bill would allow any person with a valid state-issued concealed firearm permit to carry a concealed firearm in any state that issues concealed firearm permits or that does not prohibit the carrying of concealed firearms.
Back in Minnesota, I'm a proud gun owner permitted to carry my firearm concealed. But like so many other licensed, responsible, and law-abiding Americans, I'm required to stop my car, unload my firearm, and stick it in the trunk when I reach the Wisconsin border. Like so many Americans who carry a concealed firearm to exercise their right to self-defense, this impasse jeopardizes our personal safety. When it comes to protecting my family, I'm not going to check my Second Amendment rights at the state line. Like so many Americans, I cherish the freedoms and great liberties bestowed by the Supreme Law of the Land.
